Russian President Vladimir Putin has voiced his belief that sports should remain apolitical, emphasizing their role in bringing people together rather than causing division.

This statement was made during a meeting where Putin expressed his gratitude to Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for participating in the Games of the Future, highlighting the event's humanitarian essence.

"I have stressed this repeatedly and I wish to reiterate: sports must be devoid of any political influence; they should instead serve to unite people. The Games of the Future have attracted participants from over 100 countries, with attendees coming from 104 countries across different continents," Putin remarked during the meeting according to TASS.

Putin pointed out that the opening ceremony of the Games of the Future saw the attendance of both e-sports enthusiasts and traditional sports fans.

"We're eager to see how this will unfold in practice. Undoubtedly, it will be beneficial. Moreover, young people in many countries are showing a growing interest in new sports," said Putin.

The president also appreciated the inclusion of physical activities in the event, noting, "It is very good that the event encompasses not just e-sports, which can lead to endless sitting, but also physical, real sports."

Putin has repeatedly criticized the decision after Russia was excluded from various sports tournaments around the world.
