In a recent move, the Russian government has been increasingly focusing on mobilizing Central Asian migrants for military service.

According to the ISW, Moscow's Investigation Committee initiated criminal investigations against several migrants who allegedly evaded military service at the end of October.

Within just one day, the number of investigations increased from twelve to twenty-two, and a total of 80 migrants have already been called up for service.

Additionally, at Norilsk Airport in the Krasnoyarsk region, 40 taxi drivers with a migrant background were arrested by agents of the Russian domestic intelligence service and the Rosgvardia.

They were accused of not registering with the relevant military offices.

The actions are suspected to be aimed at appealing to the ultra-nationalist voter base in the country, which has previously expressed hatred towards Central Asian migrants and is now demanding their conscription into military service.
