Estonian officials have now confirmed that the suspicious blaze at a high-tech military manufacturer was no accident.
According to a report by public Estonian broadcaster ERR, local investigators linked the damage directly to covert operations managed from Moscow.
The targeted Tallinn facility belongs to Milrem Robotics. Known for producing unmanned ground vehicles, the firm builds vital tech for modern combat.
Prime Minister Kristen Michal pointed directly at foreign operatives.
“Today, we can say with complete confidence that the arson at Milrem in Estonia on the night of August 15 was an act of sabotage commissioned by Russian intelligence services. The Internal Security Service reached this conclusion after a thorough assessment of the information collected,” Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal said according to ERR.
Behind the breach
Officers detained suspects shortly after the overnight attack. Those individuals remain in custody, but investigators are still gathering evidence to reconstruct the full sequence of events.
Security officers from Estonia’s Internal Security Service, known as KAPO, view the attack as part of a wider campaign to weaken European support for Ukraine. The threat, they warned, is far from over.
“Russian intelligence services continue recruitment and influence attempts in Europe, including for the purpose of carrying out sabotage. Defense industry organizations and companies that contribute to supporting Ukraine are at increased risk. The Internal Security Service recommends that they strengthen physical and cyber protection measures,” KAPO said.
Frontline robotics company
According to United24 Media, Milrem Robotics plays a vital role in supporting Ukrainian forces. Majority-owned by the UAE-based defense group EDGE, the firm builds specialized robot vehicles for medical evacuations, battlefield logistics, and mine clearing.
Production continues to scale up across borders. Backed by Dutch funding, the manufacturer opened a facility in the Netherlands this past June to build 100 extra vehicles for Kyiv.
Meanwhile, Estonia is bolstering its own border defenses. Construction is underway on a 20 million euro military base in Narva, though completion has moved to summer 2028.
