Israel's military announces a significant escalation in airstrikes in Gaza. Residents are advised to head south.
On Friday evening, reports are emerging of intense Israeli airstrikes targeting the northern part of the Gaza Strip, which is currently without internet and telephone services.
"We are escalating attacks in Gaza significantly," says a spokesperson for the Israeli military, according to AFP.
Israel's military is urging residents in Gaza to move to the southern parts of the area.
Al Jazeera TV station reports on Friday evening that they have only sporadic contact with the station's correspondents in Gaza.
According to the BBC, a spokesperson for the Israeli defense forces is currently holding a press conference on the situation.
Daniel Hagari states that the Israeli ground forces are "expanding their operation tonight."
He also urges all citizens in the Gaza Strip to move south immediately.
