Traveling for work usually means relying on quick meals and familiar comforts.
For politicians constantly on the move, keeping a healthy diet is notoriously difficult. Sometimes, the most powerful people rely on the simplest fast food to keep going.
A fast food flight
Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently shed light on the travel habits of President Donald Trump. He shared the details during a Wednesday appearance on the Net Positive podcast.
Kennedy told host John Crist that flights with the president feature a very specific catering menu. The sheer volume of fast food on board took the podcast crew by surprise.
“When you get on his airplane, it’s just boxes and boxes of McDonald’s,” Kennedy said.
The confession sparked immediate laughter in the studio. One of the co-hosts quickly joked about the setup, saying, “It’s like a 12-year-old’s dream,” according to the Irish Star.
Safety first
Crist asked if Kennedy ever tries to correct the president about his diet. Kennedy brushed off the idea and replied, “I’m not like a scold,” the Irish Star reported.
The health secretary explained that the fast food habit is actually driven by a fear of food poisoning. When Trump travels, he prefers national chains because he trusts their safety standards.
“He eats really good food most of the time, but when he’s traveling, he likes to eat food from national chains because he’s scared of getting food poisoning,” Kennedy explained.
Kennedy stressed that the president eats much better when he is not on the road. “When he’s at Mar-a-Lago or the White House, that’s the best food; it’s all fresh produce, and a lot of it is locally sourced. So he is eating good food most of the time,” he said.
The ultimate food tester
This relies heavily on a long-standing habit. Author Michael Wolff noted on the Inside Trump’s Head podcast that the president views the fast food giant as a safety measure.
“Well, his food tester is Mr. McDonald,” Wolff responded when asked about security precautions.
He added, “One of the reasons that he likes McDonald’s is that all this food is prepackaged, and nobody’s hands touch it. Therefore, it’s much safer.”
The exact contents of those boxes are well documented. According to Jared Kushner’s 2022 memoir, a typical meal includes two Big Macs, two Filet-o-Fish sandwiches, a large portion of fries, and a thick vanilla shake.
