Hollywood feuds usually happen over movie roles, bad reviews, or red carpet snubs.

But when the clash moves into the political arena, the words get much sharper and the stakes become far higher. A fresh outburst at a New York event has reignited one of the most famous celebrity battles in the country, UNILAD reports.

Sparking the feud

Actor Robert De Niro launched a blistering attack against Donald Trump during an appearance at a weekend gathering. The Hollywood veteran explained exactly why he feels unable to support the current state of the nation.

The star has spent years criticizing the president. According to UNILAD, De Niro previously used a podcast appearance to claim that the leader is actively ruining America.

“The story is our country, and Trump is destroying it, and who knows what his reasons are, but it’s sick, it’s f***** up,” the 82-year-old actor said at the time.

He then urged people to unite against the administration. He added: “We have to save the country.”

Airing the grievances

The bad blood spilled over again on Sunday at the Rise Up, Sing Out event in New York. De Niro took the stage to deliver a highly emotional speech about his relationship with his homeland.

“I hate to say it, but loving our country is starting to sound like an abused spouse saying they love their abuser,” De Niro told the crowd, according to UNILAD.

The actor listed several reasons for his anger, targeting foreign policy and healthcare cuts. He claimed the current administration focuses on enriching wealthy allies while hurting ordinary citizens.

“I can’t love a country that’s led by a racist, misogynist, xenophobic tyrant. And let me just say it: I can’t love the country that’s led by Donald Trump and his sycophant Congress,” De Niro stated.

Firing straight back

The administration wasted no time hitting back at the Hollywood legend. White House spokesperson Steven Cheung dismissed the actor as a fading star.

Cheung told UNILAD that De Niro is now a washed-up figure who has not been relevant for years. He claimed the actor is simply hurting his own reputation.

“Instead of embarrassing himself every time he speaks, he should seek immediate treatment for a debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has rotted his peanut sized brain,” the White House spokesperson added.
