Roger Whittaker, a renowned figure in the world of Schlager music, has passed away at the age of 87.

According to a statement from his family, Whittaker's heart stopped beating on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, in a hospital in southern France. His wife Natalie, 81, and their five children were by his side during his final moments.

The family held a funeral for him three days later, following his cremation. "Roger was an iconic artist, a wonderful husband, and father.

He touched so many hearts with his music and will forever live on in our memories," the family shared. They also requested privacy as they go through this period of mourning.

"We will miss Roger dearly, but his legacy will continue to live on in our hearts and his art."

Whittaker had been facing health issues for some time, including heart problems, clogged arteries, and issues with his legs and stomach.

He also suffered from multiple aneurysms, leading to several surgeries. Despite his health challenges, Whittaker had a prolific career, appearing in numerous music shows and embarking on several major tours. His last tour was in 2013.
