Washington meeting set

According to TV 2 News Denmark, Denmark and Greenland will meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday.

A calendar from the US State Department seen by the broadcaster lists the meeting, while noting that the schedule could still change.

CBS News has also reported the meeting, citing anonymous sources. It is due to take place at the US Department of State in Washington, DC.

Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Greenland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vivian Motzfeldt are both expected to attend, according to the calendar.

Growing US engagement

The talks form part of broader US diplomatic engagement with Denmark and Greenland, as Washington continues to signal strong strategic interest in the Arctic region.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated his desire for American ownership of Greenland, a position that has drawn firm rejection from both Copenhagen and Nuuk.

Against this backdrop, officials on both sides have sought to maintain dialogue at ministerial and parliamentary levels.

Senators heading to Denmark

Separately, DR News reports that several US senators are expected to travel to Denmark next week. The visit will include meetings with members of the Danish Parliament.

The talks are being arranged with the Folketing’s Greenland Committee, according to Aaja Chemnitz, an MP for Inuit Ataqatigiit and chair of the committee.

“It’s a meeting I have set up in collaboration with Lisa Murkowski,” Chemnitz said, referring to the Republican senator from Alaska. She added that they have worked together for many years.

Cross-party talks planned

Chemnitz said the exact timing of the meeting has not yet been finalised and declined to name which senators would attend.

However, she said they would come “from different wings” of US politics and at a senior level.

Members of Denmark’s Foreign Policy Committee have also been invited, including Aki-Matilda Høegh-Dam of the Greenlandic party Naleraq.

Pipaluk Lynge, chair of the Greenland Parliament’s Foreign and Security Policy Committee, is also expected to take part.
