In a recent statement, Russian lawmaker Alexey Chepa responded to U.S. President Joe Biden's remarks about NATO facing threats due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Chepa, the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, asserted that Russia is adopting a defensive tactic towards NATO, countering Biden's implications of a threat posed by Moscow.
Speaking to Lenta.ru, Chepa emphasized that Russia has never posed a threat to the North Atlantic Alliance. He labeled Biden as manipulative, aimed at dividing responsibility towards Ukraine and justifying further financial support.
Chepa described these as scare tactics and fabrications to validate the actions of the U.S. and its allies.
Could Lead To Economic and Political Problems for NATO
While denying any direct threat to NATO, Chepa acknowledged that the ongoing escalation of the conflict could lead to economic and subsequently political problems for NATO countries.
He suggested that many politicians are aware of the potential repercussions of further conflict escalation.
Biden's Stance on NATO and Ukraine
Previously, President Biden had stated that NATO risks facing threats in relation to the Ukrainian conflict. He also called on his fellow citizens to take pride in supporting Kyiv.
Biden added that the stakes extend beyond Ukraine, affecting NATO's operations, European security, and transatlantic relations in the future.
He expressed concerns that Russia poses a threat to some NATO allies, increasing the risks of U.S. involvement in the conflict.
