The advance of Russian troops west of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region has picked up speed within the past week, according to a British intelligence update published on the social media platform X, as reported by Ukrinform.

The report notes that Russian Ground Forces (RGF) have created a narrow salient further into Ukrainian territory, aiming to reach Ocheretyne, located about 15 km north of central Avdiivka.

Since RGF took control of Avdiivka in mid-February 2024, the area has remained one of the key locations for Russian operations, British intelligence stated.

"Despite sustaining continued heavy losses, it is highly likely that RGF can continuously target Ukrainian positions in the area and have taken control of several small settlements," the update noted.

This escalation could impact the dynamics of the conflict in eastern Ukraine, with Russian forces making incremental gains despite significant casualties.

As reported by Ukrinform, Russia's combat losses in Ukraine as of April 26 totaled 463,930 troops, including 950 casualties (killed or wounded) in the past day alone, according to the General Staff of Ukraine.
