Moscow may consider downgrading its diplomatic relations with Washington if the West continues to escalate tensions, according to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov.

In a recent interview with TASS, Ryabkov stated that while Russia has not yet taken steps to reduce its diplomatic ties with the United States or other NATO countries, this stance could change depending on future developments.

Ryabkov stated that such a move would not be solely triggered by increased Western support for Ukraine. It could also be prompted by other actions, such as economic sanctions targeting Russian assets.

"In my opinion, [such steps are] quite possible if the West chooses the path of escalation," he noted.

While Ryabkov did not specify which actions might definitively trigger a downgrade in diplomatic ties, he mentioned that any deterioration in the current situation would require detailed analysis and decision-making at the highest political levels.

"I’m not ready to theorize on the subject," he said, suggesting that the unfolding circumstances would dictate the Kremlin's response.
