What is happening?

An An-24 passenger plane carrying about 50 people has gone missing in Russia’s far east.

Lost contact

According to officials, air traffic controllers lost contact with the airplane Thursday, and that a search is on the way.

Dropped of radar

The local emergencies ministry says that the plane dropped of radar screens while approaching it’s destination of Tynda – a town in the Amur region bordering China.

About 50 on board

Accoding to regional governor Vasily Orlov, preliminary data shows the plane having 49 people on board, 43 passengers and six crew members.

Five of the passengers were children.

Search and rescue on the way

Orlov said on Telegram, that all necessary forces and means have been deployed to search for the plane.

The plane was operated by the Siberia-based airline, Angara.
