Sarah Sands, 32, had a close relationship with her 77-year-old neighbor, often bringing him homemade meals and engaging in friendly conversations.
However, her perception of him changed dramatically when she discovered that he had multiple convictions for pedophilia and violent assaults on young boys.
The neighbor, Mike Pleasted, had changed his name from Robin Moult and had been convicted for over 24 instances of sexual abuse. He had served sentences ranging from 9 months to 6 years for crimes committed between 1970 and 1991.
Despite this, he was still under investigation for abusing two more young boys.
Known to those unaware of his past as a kind old man who ran a local candy store from his home in East London, Pleasted had a different side that Sands could not ignore.
According to DailyMail on November 28, 2014, after consuming a bottle of brandy, Sands visited Pleasted for the last time, stabbing him eight times and leaving him bleeding.
Sands turned herself into the police hours after the attack, expressing regret for her actions.
"I was scared. It shouldn't have ended like this. He should have listened to me," she said.
A jury later convicted her of murder.
