Ukrainian forces have crossed the Dnieper River in the Kherson region, according to a report by the Russian news agency Tass according to The Guardian.
The crossing reportedly resulted in significant Ukrainian losses.
Tass quotes a Russian politician stating that the enemy, during the battles, lost what amounts to two Ukrainian battalions.
Earlier, Ukraine confirmed to Reuters that its forces were engaged in intense battles against Russian forces in the southern part of the Kherson region.
On Tuesday, Ukrainian sources reported that they had set foot on the right bank of the Dnieper. However, the report from Tass suggests a more significant breakthrough for the Ukrainian forces.
A breakthrough at the Dnieper could open a new line of attack against the occupied Crimea for the Ukrainian forces.
