The UK Ministry of Defence has issued an intelligence update indicating that Russia is likely engaged in a significant military operation in eastern Ukraine.
The focus of the operation appears to be the town of Avdiivka, which has been a hotspot for intense combat in recent months.
According to the Sky News, Russia is deploying multiple armored battalions in what is described as a "combined arms offensive."
The aim seems to be to surround and take control of Avdiivka. This marks what could be Russia's most substantial military action in the region since the beginning of the year.
However, the Ministry of Defence is skeptical about Russia's chances of quickly gaining control over Avdiivka, stating that a swift clearing of the town appears "increasingly unlikely."
