But sometimes, those high-profile recruits have no idea they are involved until they watch the evening news.
A total surprise
Sylvester Stallone recently discussed a strange political appointment. He never actually accepted the job. The action star was supposedly drafted by President Donald Trump to serve as a special Hollywood ambassador.
He found out about the high-profile gig from his couch. According to a recent interview with The Sunday Times cited by the Irish Star, the actor was simply watching television one night. The broadcast suddenly announced his massive new government role.
Trump declared Stallone would lead a cultural initiative alongside Mel Gibson and Jon Voight. He wanted the trio to serve as his administration’s eyes and ears in the entertainment capital.
“I thought, ‘What? Really?’ If they had asked me beforehand, I would have said it was impossible,” the actor said.
Refusing the job
Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social platform in January 2025. The president claimed the men would help restore the American film industry to its former glory.
Gibson was equally stunned by the sudden news. Shortly after the public post went live, the actor admitted that he learned about his new government role at the exact same time as political reporters.
Stallone ultimately reached out to the president to turn down the unofficial position. He simply did not believe anyone could force major entertainment corporations to change. The entire system is far too rigid.
“I said, ‘Thank you and ciao,’ because it’s impossible. Hollywood works its own way and will continue to grow. It’s a corporate world, and people running large companies won’t want to listen to my financial advice,” he explained.
Deeply entrenched systems
The star views the California film business as a deeply divided landscape. He described Hollywood to The Sunday Times as a collection of separate feudal states. Those powerful studios operate entirely on their own terms, making outside reform incredibly unlikely.
“You don’t go into six major studios and tell them how to run their business,” he said. The actor noted that he and his peers have no interest in dictating corporate strategy.
Despite brushing off the political assignment, Stallone maintains a very friendly relationship with the president. He recently spoke at a Mar-a-Lago event to praise the politician heavily. His personal admiration for the man remains completely intact.
During that gathering, the star called Trump a mythical figure. He firmly told the crowd that nobody in the world could have achieved what the current leader has managed to pull off.
