Officials in Tehran say they are not seeking confrontation, but are preparing for all scenarios.

Warning from Tehran

According to Digi24.ro, citing AFP and News.ro, Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said on Monday that the country was “fully prepared for war”, while stressing it does not want a military conflict.

He made the remarks during a conference with foreign ambassadors in Tehran, broadcast on state television. Araghchi said the statement reflected the Islamic Republic’s official position.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran does not seek war, but it is fully prepared for war,” he said.

Diplomatic opening

Despite the warning, Araghchi said Iran remained open to talks under specific conditions. He said any negotiations would need to be conducted on the basis of fairness and mutual respect.

“We are also ready for negotiations, but these negotiations must be fair, with equal rights and based on mutual respect,” he said.

Iranian officials have repeatedly said they will not engage in talks they believe place the country at a disadvantage.

Tensions with Washington

The comments come amid heightened strains between Tehran and Washington, fuelled by threats from US President Donald Trump and growing international pressure on Iran.

The Islamic Republic has faced criticism over its crackdown on protests at home, adding to the diplomatic strain with Western governments.

While Iran insists it does not want a war, analysts say the latest remarks underline how volatile the situation has become.
