The Tverskoy Court of Moscow has detained Vladimir Talaev, the deputy head of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Moscow Region, on charges of accepting a large bribe.

The court's press service confirmed the arrest to the Russian news outlet TASS.

Details of the Case

"A preventive measure was chosen for Talaev in the form of detention for a period of two months," stated a court spokesperson. Talaev has already been formally charged, according to the court.

Investigators allege that Talaev, in collusion with other defendants, received funds from an intermediary representing the interests of RZN FOOD LLC, a company involved in the wholesale food trade.

As deputy head, Talaev oversees and controls the activities of the financial and economic department, the capital construction and repair department, the logistics department, and the logistics and military supply base of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Moscow Region.

The arrest of Talaev is the latest in a series of large-scale bribery cases within Russia, as the country has recently seen an increase in such incidents. Since April, four high-ranking military officers have been arrested on similar charges, including General Vadim Shamarin, the deputy chief of the General Staff of the Russian Army, and Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov.
