Trump offers to be Middle East guardian for a staggering price

Securing volatile regions around the world often comes with an incredibly high price tag.

For decades, global superpowers have sent troops and resources abroad to keep the peace, but those missions usually drain the treasury instead of filling it. Now, a bold new proposal could completely change how international protection is funded, the Russian state-owned news agency TASS reports.

Paying for protection

A massive shift in foreign policy might be right around the corner. According to the Russian state-owned news agency TASS, US President Donald Trump has floated a startling idea regarding American military involvement in one of the world’s most unstable areas.

The plan relies on a massive cash exchange. In a fresh interview with The New York Times, Trump suggested that Washington could take on a permanent protective role if diplomatic efforts fail. But he does not intend to provide this heavy military help for free.

The financial demands are genuinely staggering. The US leader wants a massive twenty percent cut of the entire area’s income in exchange for security. If the local governments refuse to pay up, the alternative could mean an immediate return to open conflict.

Standoff with Tehran

The ultimate decision depends entirely on upcoming talks regarding nuclear capabilities. If the ongoing discussions fall apart completely, the White House is ready to pivot toward much more aggressive options.

The New York Times reported on the exact conditions laid out by the president. “Mr. Trump also insisted that if Iran failed to reach a final nuclear accord with the United States <…> he would restart military attacks on Tehran or make the United States ‘the guardian of the Middle East’ in return for 20 percent of the region’s revenues,” the newspaper stated.

That ultimatum leaves very little room for compromise. Either an agreement is reached, or regional leaders face a tough choice between new airstrikes and a multi-billion dollar protection fee.

Time is ticking fast for diplomats on both sides. Aides to the US leader expect a critical new stage of nuclear negotiations to kick off this Friday in Switzerland, where the fate of trade and security will be decided.
