Trump says he’ll name TV host as top federal prosecutor in DC

Trump has picked a new DC-prosecutor

President Donald Trump says he’s found he next top federal prosecutor for the U.S. capital – but it is not his first pick.

First pick withdrawn

Trumps first pick for the job was conservative activist Ed Martin Jr. Martins nomination was pulled by the president, however, as bipartisan concerns about Martins modest legal experience, divisive politcs and support for the January 6th rioters became too much.

TV host picked instead

According to AP, Trump said on Thursday, that he will pick Jeanine Pirro, a Fox News host, former county prosecutor and elected judge, to be the top federal prosecutor of D.C.

Pirro, 73, was born in 1951 and was elected as judge of the Westchester County, New York, in 1990. 3 years later, 1993, she was elected to the position of the same county’s district attorney.

Ran for Senate

In 2006, Jeanine Pirro briefly sought the Republican nomiation for the Senate to run against Hilary Clinton. She droppet out to instead accept the nomination for New York General Attorney, though she ended up losing the general election to Democrat Andrew Cuomo.

Fow News host

Since 2008, Pirro has been a TV host, first on The CW, where she hosted the show Judge Jeanine Pirro. In 2011 she joined Fox News to different shows like Justice with Judge Jeanine as well as being a co-host on The Five. She has also been a frequent contributor to The Today Show.
