Donald Trump caused laughter during a speech when he suddenly stopped to criticize his own hairstyle. The 80-year-old president caught sight of a thinning patch on the back of his head while addressing supporters at a political convention in Dallas.
Looking up at a large video monitor, he paused his address to comment on his crown. “I gotta do a little bit better in the back right there,” he admitted to the crowd.
According to Daily Beast, the president expressed his frustration directly to the audience as he stared at the screen. “I don’t like that little skin that’s showing, I’m not happy with it,” he added. He then quipped, “That’s not good. I shouldn’t have looked up there.”
Wild hairstyle changes
The brief onstage freakout follows a week of public debate surrounding his famous locks. Last week, the president randomly brought up his hair during a Rose Garden appearance, insisting he has never worn a wig.
He recalled speaking in severe wind during a 2024 campaign rally in Ohio. “You know, for years, I had to suffer with people saying, ‘He wears a wig,'” Trump said. He added that the severe weather proved his hair was real, noting, “if you did, it was not going to be on your head very long.”
Shortly after that speech, he arrived at a New Jersey airport sporting a completely new look. Reporters noted his hair appeared darker and tousled, with his traditional side parting flipped over to the opposite side.
Secret maintenance kit
The sudden transformation sparked widespread interest among political commentators and biographers. According to author Michael Wolff, managing the president’s hair is a massive daily operation involving a specialized maintenance team.
Speaking on the Inside Trump’s Head podcast, Wolff claimed an aide carries a portable kit containing matching hair patches across the country. He noted the team uses “some kind of paste” to apply the patches whenever necessary.
Wolff added that these hair handlers travel alongside the military aides who carry the nuclear codes. The Daily Beast reported that maintaining the president’s iconic image remains a major enterprise behind the scenes.
