Trump and Zelenskyy last met in person in late April at the Vatican, during the funeral of the late Pope Francis.

Ahead of the summit, President Zelenskyy spoke about Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to purchase US weapons. He confirmed that Ukraine has prepared a detailed procurement package that requires presidential-level discussions for approval.

“We have a package that we would like to purchase. A globally strong package that we intend to buy from the American side,” Zelenskyy said.

He explained that the package includes specific weapons systems, and that Ukraine is already in direct talks with American companies and manufacturers.

Zelenskyy added that the package has been updated multiple times based on timing, models, and availability, and that negotiations must now take place at the presidential level.
