Shifting conditions on the battlefield are forcing new strategies.

As the landscape changes, so too are the methods used by forces on the ground, reports the Kyiv Post.

New battlefield tactic

Russian troops are increasingly using spring vegetation to conceal movements as they probe Ukrainian defensive lines, according to Kyiv Post.

The tactic involves sending small groups forward under cover of newly grown foliage to test weak points.

Ukrainian officials say the approach is most visible on the southern front.

Ukrainian response

Kyiv’s forces have stepped up countermeasures to detect and stop these incursions.

Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for Ukraine’s southern defence forces, said patrols and targeted operations have been intensified.

“The foliage has now grown in, and the enemy is trying to use it to penetrate deeper into our defenses,” Voloshyn said.

Key regions

Russian activity has increased in several areas, including near the Velykomykhailivka forest and the Oleksandrivka sector.

According to Ukrinform, cited by Kyiv Post, troops are attempting to use wooded areas to scout crossings of the Vovcha River.

The area is seen as strategically important for further advances toward the Pokrovsk direction.

Holding the line

Despite the renewed efforts, Ukrainian forces say they have prevented Russian units from gaining a foothold.

Voloshyn said attempts to establish positions in key regions have so far been unsuccessful.

Heavy fighting continues

Clashes remain intense across the frontlines.

On Sunday alone, 241 combat engagements were recorded, with the heaviest fighting in the Pokrovsk sector.

Ukrainian troops repelled 55 assault attempts, highlighting the ongoing pressure in the region.

Evolving war

The developments underline how both sides continue to adapt tactics as the war progresses.

Seasonal changes, such as increased vegetation, are now playing a growing role in shaping battlefield strategies.
