Russia says hundreds of Ukrainian drones targeted multiple regions overnight, killing at least four people and triggering one of the largest attacks on Moscow in more than a year.

Russia says it faced one of the largest Ukrainian drone attacks in recent months, with strikes reported across several regions including Moscow.
Officials said the overnight assault caused fatalities, injuries and infrastructure damage as air defences attempted to intercept hundreds of drones.

Deadly strikes

According to Reuters, at least four people were killed during the extensive Ukrainian drone attack.

Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobiov said a house was struck in Khimki, north of the Russian capital, which resulted in the death of a woman.

Two other deaths were reported in the village of Pogorelki in the Mytishchi district, while another fatality was recorded in the Belgorod region.

Regional authorities also reported injuries and damage to residential buildings and infrastructure.

Moscow targeted

TASS, citing Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, reported that Russian air defences intercepted 81 drones heading toward the capital overnight.

Sobyanin described the assault as the heaviest drone attack on Moscow in more than a year.

According to the report, 12 people were injured, mainly near the entrance to the Moscow oil refinery.

The mayor said refinery operations were not significantly affected despite the nearby strikes.

Hundreds intercepted

Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed that 556 drones were shot down across the country overnight and into the morning.

Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow said debris from intercepted drones landed on airport grounds but caused no damage.

The scale of the attack came days after Russia launched a massive wave of strikes against Ukraine.

According to Reuters, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia had recently fired more than 670 drones and 56 missiles at Ukraine in a separate large-scale assault.
