A new claim about construction at the White House is raising questions about what is being built beneath one of its most high-profile upgrades.
President Donald Trump says the US military is involved in a large underground project linked to a planned ballroom.
Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump said a “large complex” is currently being constructed beneath the ballroom structure.
“The military is currently building a large complex under the ballroom (…). Everything is going well. We are right ahead of schedule,” he said, according to AFP, cited by News.ro.
He added that the ballroom itself is being used as a form of cover for the work below ground.

Trump suggested the facility could be linked to advanced military capabilities, though he did not provide specific details.
“The ballroom is actually being used as a shelter for whatever is being built underneath by the military, whether it’s drones or something else,” he said.
No official information has been released by the Pentagon or other agencies confirming the nature or purpose of the project.
White house changes
The ballroom development is part of a wider renovation effort at the White House. Trump previously ordered the demolition of a wing of the building to make space for the new structure.

The planned ballroom is designed to host up to 1,000 guests for state events, including receptions for foreign leaders.
The scale of the project has grown significantly since it was first proposed. Initial estimates placed the cost at around $200 million, but that figure has since doubled to approximately $400 million.
Trump has frequently highlighted the design and materials involved, describing the use of high-end features such as onyx and other premium stone.
