German military bases, particularly those used for training Ukrainian soldiers, are being frequently targeted by unidentified drones, as reported by the German news outlet Bild.

This recurring issue has raised security concerns within the German Armed Forces.

The German military has been cognizant of these unauthorized drone activities for more than a year. In response, a German general ordered the urgent training of military police in anti-drone techniques in October 2022. Additionally, in November 2023, the German Armed Forces formed a dedicated task force to counter illegal drone flights. However, the operational status of this task force remains unclear.

Bild specifically highlighted the regular sightings of drones over the Klitz military training ground. This facility is notable for training Ukrainian forces on Leopard 1 tanks. Marcus Faber, a member of Germany’s Free Democratic Party and part of the country’s Defense Committee, confirmed these occurrences.

The persistent presence of these drones over military training areas has led to speculations about their origins. Faber and the German military suspect Russian involvement, although there has been no definitive confirmation of this. The situation continues to be monitored closely by German defense authorities, who are taking steps to mitigate any potential threats posed by these unmanned aerial vehicles.
