What is happening?

In a meeting with the heads of international news agencies, the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, said that US President Donald Trump is right in claiming that the war in Ukraine wouldn’t have started, if he was president at the time.
“I believe, he is right”

According to Russian news agency Interfax, Putin said:
“He (Trump) has repeatedly said there would have been no war if he had been the president. I believe he is right about this as well.”

Are they meeting?

According to Reuters, Putin also touched on a possible meeting between him and Donald Trump, saying it would be “extremely useful.”
That being said, a possible meeting is still a work in progress:
“I agree with the President of the United States – it must, of course, be prepared and end with some positive results,” Putin said.
“It never would have happened”

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that the full-scale war in Ukraine would not have happened, if he was president at the time.
For example, at a rally during the presidential election campaign in 2024, where Trump said:
“It wouldn’t have happened, period. Russia wouldn’t have gotten in (to Ukraine).”
The 24-hour claim

Before taking office again, Trump repeatedly claimed that he could end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours of being president again.
That deadline was since changed to 100 days, and now Trump second term has lasted for 146 days with the war still raging.
