Authorities said his survival was described as “miraculous,” but confirmed that the injuries resulted in the loss of vision in one eye and that further surgery will be required as part of a long recovery.
Young recruit
Hibbert, 22, had been serving with New South Wales Police for just four months when the shooting occurred, police said.
Despite being seriously injured, officers said he continued to assist members of the public. “Even so, in the face of a violent and tragic incident, he responded with courage, instinct, and selflessness,” the spokesperson said.
