Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed claims that Western powers are pressuring the country into peace negotiations.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has rejected statements suggesting that Western governments have been pushing the country to initiate peace talks, according to reports from the U.S. Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Reports had previously suggested that American and European officials had conducted behind-the-scenes discussions about peace negotiations during a meeting of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group last month.

According to NBC, these discussions were a reaction to the military confrontation reaching a deadlock.

Zelenskyy, however, emphasized in a press conference on November 4 that as the head of state, he can assure that he is not being pressured into such negotiations by either European or American sides.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, meanwhile, underscored her support for the sovereignty of Ukraine.
