Moving across the world usually means leaving a piece of your past behind.

Bringing young children back to see where a parent grew up is a massive personal milestone. Sometimes, those family reunions require intense security arrangements before anyone can even board a plane.

A summer return

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially packing their bags. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will travel from California to the United Kingdom this summer alongside their two children.

The famous family plans to arrive in mid-July. They are crossing the Atlantic to attend the One Year To Go Invictus events in Birmingham.

This journey marks a massive shift. Meghan has not visited Britain in nearly four years. Her last trip took place in September 2022 following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Longing for connection

Harry frequently travels to his home country for brief solo visits. Serious safety concerns previously stopped him from bringing his wife and kids along on the journey.

A source spoke to SkyNews.com.au about the emotional toll. “It’s been a real point of great sadness, for Harry especially, that he’s been unable to bring his wife and kids back to the UK safely to reconnect with friends and family, but anyone would understand his desire to put their safety first,” the insider revealed.

The royal father desperately wants his children to know his roots. “He would love to introduce the children to his wider family, to show them the UK, where he grew up, his homeland. That would be a natural thing for any parent,” the source added.

Facing the critics

Seven-year-old Archie spent the very beginning of his life in Britain. His five-year-old sister Lilibet was born in the United States and has only visited her father’s home country once.

The insider noted that Meghan actually loves visiting Britain and feels ready for the public attention. “Meghan’s strong and much more resilient than people give her credit for, she’s had to grow the thickest of skin to deal with the daily barrage of unnecessary and frankly, dangerous, hate that is spread about her,” the source explained.

Harry previously lost a legal appeal regarding his police protection. During a BBC interview last year, he bluntly stated, “I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point.”
