The Princess of Wales was absent on Monday evening as King Charles, Queen Camilla and Prince William hosted one of the most prominent annual gatherings on the royal calendar, the Diplomatic Reception at Windsor Castle

This is the second consecutive year she has missed the event.

Morning engagement, evening absence

Earlier that day, the Princess stepped out in London for The Future Workforce Summit, organised by the Royal Foundation Business Taskforce for Early Childhood.

According to People, it was her first public speech in two years, delivered as part of her ongoing work through the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.

But she did not join the evening’s festivities, where the King and Queen welcomed ambassadors and high commissioners accredited to the Court of St James.

Health considerations

The Princess reduced her workload significantly in 2024 after announcing in March that she was undergoing treatment for cancer.

She later confirmed she had completed chemotherapy and shared in January that she is in remission. While she has recently resumed some engagements, her return to royal duties has remained measured.

Buckingham Palace had announced in advance that King Charles, Queen Camilla, and Prince William would represent the family at Monday’s reception.

This year’s Diplomatic Reception was held at Windsor Castle for the first time since 2001.
