Meghan Markle may be returning to the U.K. this summer, potentially ending a four-year absence.
Prince Harry is expected to travel to Birmingham, England, in July for one-year-to-go celebrations ahead of the Invictus Games. The Duke of Sussex is a founder of the Paralympic-style event and has traditionally attended such milestones with his wife.
Whether Meghan joins him would be her first visit to Britain since 2022. For now, no final decision has been made, and representatives for the couple declined to comment on Jan. 12.
Security at stake
According to The Sun on Sunday, a key factor is whether Harry is granted increased, taxpayer-backed security while in the U.K.
A review of his protection arrangements is currently underway.

Prince Harry has repeatedly said he does not feel safe bringing Meghan and their children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, to Britain without adequate security.
“Security is always going to be a deciding factor in this,” a source told the outlet.
Ongoing legal battles
Harry is next expected to be in the U.K. later this month to attend court hearings in his legal case against Associated Newspapers.
Proceedings are scheduled to begin on Jan. 19 and could last around nine weeks.
A ruling on his security arrangements is not expected before that visit, despite reported “positive” signals from within the U.K. government.

History of the dispute
The Duke of Sussex lost his full security detail after he and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020. In May 2025, he lost an appeal challenging that decision. Court proceedings revealed that no formal risk assessment had been conducted for the family since 2019.
In October 2025, Harry made a renewed personal appeal to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, who oversees policing and crime prevention.
Family ties and distance
Meghan last visited the U.K. for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022. Archie and Lilibet have only returned once since 2020, for the Platinum Jubilee earlier that year.
The security dispute has also deepened Harry’s estrangement from King Charles, although Buckingham Palace has denied the monarch has any authority over such decisions.
Invictus Games organizers have expressed hope that senior royals may attend the opening of the Birmingham games in 2027.
