Tottenham Hotspur striker Alejo Véliz has been spotted at the training ground of his former club Rosario Central, fuelling growing speculation that a return to Argentina could be on the cards this summer.

Return to Familiar Surroundings

The 21-year-old forward, who joined Spurs from Rosario in 2023 for around £12 million, was photographed back at the club’s Arroyo Seco facility during the off-season. Rosario Central shared an image of Véliz in a club jacket on social media, noting:

Like every time he is on vacation, Alejo Véliz visited Arroyo Seco to watch this morning’s friendlies against Central Córdoba.

While this visit appears to be routine for the young striker during holidays, it arrives at a time when his future at Tottenham looks increasingly uncertain.

Stalled Progress in Europe

Véliz has struggled to make his mark in North London. He has featured just eight times for Spurs, scoring once, and has endured underwhelming loan spells at Sevilla and Espanyol, largely limited to substitute appearances.

Reports in Argentina claim that Rosario Central are keen to re-sign their academy product, initially on loan. However, Tottenham are understood to prefer a permanent move, likely aiming to recoup as much of their original investment as possible.

Squad Registration Complications

Another hurdle for Véliz’s Tottenham prospects is the club’s European and Premier League registration issues. He no longer qualifies as an under-21 player and, as a non-locally trained player, he takes up a valuable senior squad slot, something hard to justify for a fringe player.

With Thomas Frank now taking charge and set to oversee a major squad reshaping, Véliz appears unlikely to be part of the first-team plans. A European loan could help retain his value, but all options remain open for now.

What Next?

Spurs are actively managing a bloated squad and keen to streamline ahead of a campaign that includes Champions League football. For Véliz, a third loan spell, or a permanent return to Rosario, could offer a much-needed reset.

Whether this latest trip to Argentina is a sentimental visit or the early signs of a transfer in motion, it’s clear the clock is ticking on the young striker’s Premier League aspirations.
