He has done so much for me. He has trusted me from the start, developed the team so well, developed me as a human and a player so much — and I wish him all the best.

As speculation intensifies around his future, Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo has asked for privacy, but his admiration for new Tottenham boss Thomas Frank has not gone unnoticed.

Transfer Battle: Spurs vs. United

Both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are in the race for the prolific Cameroon international, who netted 20 Premier League goals last season. Manchester United have already submitted a bid worth £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons, but Brentford are holding firm, valuing the attacker higher.

Meanwhile, Tottenham’s recent appointment of Mbeumo’s former manager Thomas Frank could tip the scales in North London’s favour.

Spurs’ interest has only grown since Frank’s arrival, as the Dane now looks to rebuild Tottenham in his image. And few players fit that image better than Mbeumo, a talent Frank developed from a raw Ligue 2 winger into one of the Premier League’s most consistent wide forwards.

“He Has Done So Much for Me”

Speaking to Sky Sports at the Canadian Grand Prix, Mbeumo broke his silence on Frank’s Spurs switch:

He has done so much for me. He has trusted me from the start, developed the team so well, developed me as a human and a player so much — and I wish him all the best.

Although Mbeumo avoided direct comments on the Tottenham or Manchester United links, explicitly requesting not to be asked about transfer speculation, his warm words for Frank underline a bond that could play a pivotal role in his next career move.

More Than Just a Player-Coach Connection

Frank and Mbeumo’s connection has been well-documented. Under Frank’s guidance, Mbeumo developed into Brentford’s attacking spearhead, thriving both centrally and on the flank.

Known for his off-ball movement, finishing under pressure, and versatility, the 24-year-old is a tailor-made fit for Frank’s aggressive, direct attacking style.

Given Frank’s desire to recreate a high-intensity forward line at Tottenham, adding Mbeumo to a group that includes Brennan Johnson and Mathys Tel could give Spurs a potent new dimension.

Financial Stakes and Strategic Timing

With a reported price tag hovering around £70 million, any move for Mbeumo will be a major financial commitment.

Tottenham’s recently reported bid is believed to be more aggressive than United’s, spearheaded by sporting director Johan Lange. However, Brentford remain firm on valuation, and negotiations continue.

It’s unclear whether Mbeumo would prioritise Champions League football with United or the chance to reunite with the manager who shaped his career. But Spurs may hold a secret advantage, the emotional and professional pull of Frank.

What Happens Next?

Tottenham have already secured one of Frank’s longtime targets in Brennan Johnson and landed Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich. If they can pull off a swoop for Mbeumo, it would signal not only a win over a direct rival but a clear commitment to backing Frank’s vision from day one.

The forward’s next move is far from certain, but if Frank and Tottenham have anything to say about it, Mbeumo may soon be lining up in white, not red, by August.
