A footballer was killed and others injured after lightning struck a field in Brazil during a cup match.
Caio Henrique de Lima Goncalves was playing for his team, Uniao Jaiirense, in the state of Paraná, in the south of the country, when he was struck by lightning on Sunday, December 10.
Three Players Still Hospitalized
The match was against Unidos, from Santo Antonio da Platina, in a regional amateur cup game at the José Eleuterio da Silva stadium.
After collapsing on the pitch, the 21-year-old man died on the way to the hospital from his injuries, as reported by the Brazilian news site G1.
Footage filmed moments after the lightning strike shows the field strewn with players and officials running to secure and administer medical care to the injured.
Among the other hospitalized players, three of them are still under observation, but their lives are not in danger.
