Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as a serious contender for the signing of Xavi Simons, with the Dutch midfielder reportedly making his intentions clear to RB Leipzig that he wants to leave this summer.

The 22-year-old has told Leipzig he sees his future away from Germany, believing he has reached the end of his development at the club. Tottenham are said to be monitoring the situation closely, and while no formal bid has been submitted, interest is described as “genuine” as Thomas Frank continues to reshape his squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Simons Wants a New Challenge

Simons joined Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain in 2023, initially on loan, before making the deal permanent for £42.6m in January 2025. Since then, he has amassed 21 goals and 23 assists in 76 appearances, showcasing his attacking versatility and creative prowess.

Despite his personal success, Leipzig endured a disappointing campaign, finishing seventh in the Bundesliga and missing out on European football. According to The Athletic, the club are now open to selling Simons but will demand close to £60m for his services.

I’m still a young player. I have many dreams and the club knows that,” Simons told Sky Germany in April.
“But right now, the most important thing for me is to play well in the upcoming games.

Spurs See Simons as Key to Thomas Frank’s Rebuild

New Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank is prioritising attacking reinforcements and Simons’ profile fits the bill: dynamic, young, and technically gifted. The Dutch international could slot into a variety of roles, either as a No. 10 or wide forward, and offer Spurs creative thrust alongside James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.

Simons’ potential move aligns with Tottenham’s new transfer philosophy under Frank and technical director Johan Lange, who are focusing on high-upside, multi-functional players capable of fitting into an aggressive, high-pressing system.

Champions League Football

Tottenham’s return to the Champions League, despite a 17th-place league finish, has also boosted their attractiveness to top-tier talent. Their Europa League triumph over Manchester United not only secured silverware but also paved the way for renewed ambition, fuelled by Daniel Levy’s bold target of winning the Premier League and Champions League in the near future.

The Numbers Game

  • Xavi Simons
    • Age: 22
    • Contract until: 2027

Leipzig are reluctant to entertain cut-price offers, but with Simons pressing for a move, and Spurs in search of a marquee attacking addition, the coming weeks could prove decisive.
