A mother has caused a stir on the internet after she left her daughter's school performance in sheer outrage.
The reason for her departure was the role her daughter had been assigned. Contrary to what one might think, the mother's issue wasn't that the role wasn't significant enough.
Instead, she criticized the school for being 'so backward' and was upset to discover that her daughter was to play a character called 'a man's wife,' as reported by Pensionist.dk.
A Normally Relaxed Attitude
The mother elaborated on her stance on the website Mumsnet:
"Normally, I'm quite relaxed about everything regarding school, and I certainly sympathize with the teachers' workload, but come on, guys. No woman should be identified by her relationship to a man anymore, right?"
"I feel like confronting the school about this. Really feel like it. It's how the everyday, mundane feminism is maintained when people don't reflect on this sort of thing. It bothers me that this happens in our children's core learning environment without raising any eyebrows."
The Internet Divided
Some supported the mother, while others thought she was overreacting. One user wrote, "I feel like telling you that you are incredibly ridiculous."
Another added, "Unfortunately, I don't see the problem here. The play takes place over 2000 years ago, where women generally were someone's wife."
Other users simply commented that she should be grateful her child has a human role in the play, with one person sharing, "It's not so bad - my son was usually a piece of cattle in school plays."
