In a terrifying encounter caught on security cameras, a security guard at the St. Regis Aspen Resort was attacked by a bear in the hotel’s kitchen area.
The video, which has since gone viral, shows the intense moments leading up to the bear knocking the man unconscious before eventually fleeing the scene.
The Incident
Reports of a bear sighting inside the kitchen of the luxurious St. Regis Aspen Resort quickly turned into a grave situation as a security guard on duty went to investigate.
The guard, unprepared for a face-to-face encounter, startled the bear as he turned a corner into the kitchen area.
The security cameras captured the heart-stopping moment when the bear, in a state of panic, swiped at the guard, landing a powerful hit on his back and knocking him to the ground.
In an incredible display of resilience and presence of mind, the guard managed to get away from the attacking bear and make a call to 911, reporting the incident.
The security guard sustained scratches to his back in the attack and was promptly taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Thanks to the quick response from medical professionals and the guard’s ability to escape the dangerous situation, he was released from the hospital the following Tuesday morning, with wildlife officials confirming his stable condition.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) officers responded immediately to the scene, launching a thorough investigation to track down and evaluate the bear involved in the incident.
The attack has sparked a broader conversation about the presence of wildlife in urban spaces and the necessary precautions that need to be taken to prevent such dangerous encounters.
