Bad weather and a scary car crash made for a romantic ending in South Carolina.
A sudden shock hit Kevin Cossa and Meghan Quinn when the couple from Philadelphia was driving their car south for vacation as heavy mist descended over Lake Marion in South Carolina.
Visibility vanished almost instantly while they were driving on Interstate 95. The weather turned from clear blue skies into torrential downpours within seconds.
This caused mayhem across the highway. According to Clarendon County Fire Rescue, cited by AccuWeather, 69 out of 92 vehicles on the bridge collided, leaving dozens injured, several people trapped, and one car engulfed in flames.
An unexpected proposal
Quinn and Cossa were in one of the 69 cars that crashed in the wreck. Miraculously, the couple walked away unhurt. They climbed out immediately to check on other people to see who needed help.
First responders then helped everyone evacuate the bridge. That was when Cossa ran back to the car and grabbed an engagement ring. He had planned to propose the following day, but taking the car crash as a sign, he decided he could not wait a second longer.
Standing right there on the bridge in the middle of the chaos, Cossa popped the question. Quinn said yes immediately.
A unique moment
‘I just figured that I wouldn’t find another moment as unique as that one,’ Cossa said in a video posted by MUSC Health, which treated the couple at its Orangeburg location.
Cossa explained why he moved so fast: ‘At that point in time, there was so much confusion and everything going on that we just didn’t even know what tomorrow meant.’
Hospital staff celebrated the news during treatment, describing the engagement as ‘an unexpected moment of joy.’ In a social media post, MUSC Health added, ‘We’re grateful Kevin and Meghan are doing well and wish them safe travels, a happy engagement and many years of happiness together.’
