Why Elon Musk says aliens aren’t being hidden.

Elon Musk addressed the topic of extraterrestrial life during an appearance on Peter Diamandis’ Moonshots podcast, shared on YouTube on January 6.
The Tesla and SpaceX chief said he is frequently asked whether aliens exist.
Musk dismissed the idea that governments are secretly hiding proof of extraterrestrial life. He said that if he had encountered any credible evidence, the public would already know.
“I’m asked all the time… and I’m like, look, if I were aware of the slightest evidence of aliens, I would immediately post it on X,” Musk said.
“Because it would be the most viewed post of all time.”

Why secrecy makes no sense
During the discussion, Diamandis asked whether people would panic or simply move on with their lives if aliens were confirmed. Musk suggested governments would have little reason to conceal such a discovery.
“They don’t have an incentive to hide the aliens; they have an incentive to show the aliens because they would not have any more arguments about the military budget if they seem a little bit dangerous,” he said.
Musk added that public fascination alone would make secrecy unrealistic.
Thousands of satellites
Musk pointed to SpaceX’s growing presence in orbit as further evidence. “We have got 9,000 satellites up there, we have never had to maneuver around an alien spaceship…yet,” he said.
A clip from the interview later circulated on X, where Musk quote-tweeted it with a single word: “Yup.”

According to Musk, the scale of satellite monitoring makes claims of hidden alien encounters increasingly implausible.
Renewed UFO interest
His comments come as interest in unidentified flying objects has resurfaced. Unsealed documents reported in the UK have claimed intelligence agents were ordered to secure UFO-related technology after unidentified aircraft raised concerns.
Accounts dating back to 1997 described “large, silent, low-flying black triangles” that appeared to outperform known aircraft. However, no confirmed evidence of extraterrestrial origin has been produced.
