At TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Shelby Martin gave birth to one of the biggest babies born in the city in recent years.
Her son, Cassian, weighed in at nearly six kilograms (13+ pounds), making him the largest baby born at the hospital in three years.
The birth quickly gained national attention after Shelby posted before-and-after photos of her pregnancy belly on TikTok, where the post has since received over 4 million likes and more than 35 million views.
“I knew the safest option was a C-section,” Shelby told People, adding that her care team was prepared for the delivery due to Cassian’s rapid growth during pregnancy.
“We had been told that he would be big, but I could never have imagined that he would weigh almost 6 kilos.”

Despite the planned cesarean, the delivery was far from routine.
Shelby later learned that her hip was nearly dislocated during the birth due to the baby’s size.
“As soon as they pulled him out, everyone in the operating room collectively gasped. They were completely shocked,” she recalled.
To make the occasion even more special, Cassian was born on his mother’s birthday, a moment Shelby called her “greatest gift.”
Due to his size, Cassian was kept in the NICU for ten days to monitor his glucose levels, a common precaution for larger newborns.
