A brief moment during a public visit has set off a wave of online gossip about Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha.
The second lady was photographed without her wedding ring.
Usha Vance visited Camp Lejeune in North Carolina on November 19 alongside First Lady Melania Trump.
Images from the event showed her without her wedding ring, prompting speculation across social media about her marriage to the vice president.
According to People, a spokesperson clarified the situation, saying Usha is “a mother of three young children, who does a lot of dishes, gives lots of baths, and forgets her ring sometimes.”

The comment was intended to tamp down the online frenzy.
Funeral controversy
The ring chatter followed an earlier moment that had fuelled gossip.
During the funeral for activist Charlie Kirk, his widow Erika Kirk praised JD Vance warmly, and embraced him, after being named CEO of Turning Point USA. Some online critics called the gesture “inappropriate,” though Erika emphasized both Vance and Usha had been “incredible” sources of support.
“No one will ever replace my husband,” she said, adding she saw “some similarities” between him and the vice president.
She also stressed that “he and Usha… were there for us,” countering claims of any impropriety.

Navigating public life
Usha Vance, the first Indian American second lady, has faced scrutiny not only as the spouse of a national political figure but as someone whose family immigrated to the U.S.
Her husband and President Donald Trump have taken hardline stances on immigration, policies that have drawn intense criticism.
Married since 2014, the couple share three children.
Yet they have acknowledged differences, including religion. JD Vance has spoken publicly about converting to Catholicism in his 30s and hoping his wife might one day do the same, though he insists it is not a source of conflict.
“Everybody has to come to their own arrangement,” he said at a Turning Point USA event. “Most Sundays, Usha will come with me to church… Do I hope eventually she is moved the same way I was? Yeah, honestly, I do… But if she doesn’t, that doesn’t cause a problem for me.”
