French President Emmanuel Macron has personally guaranteed that the Seine River will be clean and safe for swimming during the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.

Macron made this assurance on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), signaling the French government's commitment to ensuring that the water quality meets the required standards for the event.

Concerns About Pollution

Macron's statement followed his attendance at the opening of a rainwater treatment plant in Champigny-sur-Marne.

"The key step towards making the Seine navigable is that the sewage treatment plant is ready... The water in the Seine will be cool but clean. I can confirm that," Macron wrote.

The French charity "Seine-Saint-Denis" had previously raised concerns about the level of pollution in the Seine, questioning whether the river could be used for Olympic competitions.

However, the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, expressed confidence that the water quality in the Seine would meet the necessary standards for the summer games.

President Macron has shown a personal interest in the cleanliness of the Seine. In March, he promised to swim in the river one day, though he joked about not announcing the date to avoid drawing a large crowd.
