Nicolas Maduro is sitting in an American jail cell. Despite this restricted environment, the deposed Venezuelan president managed to reach out to his followers online.
The ousted leader shared a photo of himself on his X account, according to TASS. It shows him standing against a wall in a grey tracksuit. He appears to be smiling.
His message was directed at family members and loyalists back home.
“A small gift of love and hope. I send these photos as a small gift to all my grandsons and granddaughters, to the boys and girls, and to all the noble people who love us. I want you to know that we stand firm, with our hearts full of your love,” Maduro wrote.
A sudden military strike
The path to an American prison cell began with a massive military escalation. On January 3, US forces launched a sweeping attack on civilian and military facilities in Caracas.
President Donald Trump publicly confirmed the operation, according to TASS. He then revealed a staggering geopolitical development.
US forces captured both Nicolas Maduro and his wife during the sudden chaos, Trump stated. The couple was swiftly taken out of the country.
Facing serious charges
Accusations against the ousted leader surfaced almost immediately. By January 5, Maduro and his wife stood in a federal courtroom.
They appeared before the US Federal Court for the Southern District of New York. The stakes were incredibly high. Prosecutors accused the couple of active involvement in drug trafficking.

Back in Caracas, the political landscape shifted almost overnight. The physical removal of the president left a massive power vacuum across the government.
Officials moved quickly. Vice President Delcy Rodriguez stepped into the top leadership role on January 6, establishing a new chain of command.
