The Public Prosecutor's Office at East Jutland Police has charged three men, aged 27, 37, and 39, with defrauding slot machine winnings amounting to several million kroner in April 2023.

According to Danish TV2OJ, the fraud took place in a supermarket in Tranbjerg near Aarhus. According to the indictment, the fraud was carried out by the three men collectively entering or scanning already paid-out slot winnings 1697 times on a cash register terminal, thereby illicitly transferring more than 5.6 million kroner ($809.000) to foreign bank accounts.

The three have been in custody since April, May, and September 2023, respectively.

"There has been extensive investigative work behind this – including significant assistance from the police and public prosecutors in several other European countries – which is the basis for us now charging these three men with defrauding several million kroner," says prosecutor Morten Lassen from the East Jutland Police in a press release.

Additional Fraudulent Activities

In addition to the three men in custody, several others have been charged in the case as part of the extensive investigation. Their cases are being handled separately.

Besides the data fraud in Tranbjerg, the 39-year-old defendant is also charged with more than 30 instances of defrauding slot winnings in various businesses in Jutland and Funen from 2020 to 2023.

According to the indictment, the fraud in these cases was carried out by managing to get clerks to pay out money for already paid-out slot winnings, thereby illicitly obtaining more than 390,000 kroner($56.000)

The case is awaiting scheduling at the Court in Aarhus, and neither the East Jutland Police nor the public prosecutor's office have any further comments on the case at this time.
