The 79-year-old president returned to the public stage on September 2, after several days of relative silence, but rather than calming speculation, his noticeably puffier face and slightly altered appearance kicked online chatter into overdrive.
“Okay… Maybe He Is Dying”
“Maybe it’s just me, but that doesn’t look like Trump at all,” one user wrote on X.
Another added: “That’s his stunt double.”
A third user posted: “Okay… maybe he is dying.”
Not the First Time for Trump Family Doubles
According to Newsner, body double rumors have long swirled around political figures, but Trump’s family has been a particular magnet.
Melania Trump faced similar claims during her time as First Lady, with online outlets accusing the White House of using a look-alike during public appearances.
Now, those same types of claims are being directed at Trump himself.
Height Comparisons Fuel Theories
Speculation began bubbling up months earlier, during Trump’s visit to the NATO summit in the Netherlands in June.
A group photo of Trump alongside King Willem-Alexander (6’2”) and President Erdoğan (just over 6’0”) raised eyebrows.
Trump has long claimed to be 6’3”, but appeared slightly shorter than expected.
“Obviously Not Him”
That discrepancy set off another wave of suspicion.
“Not tall enough. Obviously not him,” one person posted.
Another wrote: “I was wondering why he looked so much shorter.”
But photography experts say differences in posture, footwear, or camera angle can easily distort perceived height.
Trump Fires Back
Trump quickly responded to the internet rumors with a typically blunt post on Truth Social:
“NEVER FELT BETTER IN MY LIFE. Also, DC IS A CRIME FREE ZONE! President DJT.”
He didn’t directly mention the body double chatter, but the message was aimed at calming health rumors.
Vance Reassures
Vice President JD Vance weighed in during an interview with The Telegraph, saying:
“Trump is in incredibly good health,” and that he works “later at night and earlier in the morning than many younger staffers.”
He added that he was “prepared if anything catastrophic happened,” though stressed that such an outcome seems unlikely.
