Twerking Outside Putin’s Church Earns 3 Russian Teens 11 Months in ‘Gulag’

The church that the girls choose as their backdrop is frequented by Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Twerking Outside Moscow Cathedral

Three 18-year-old students have been sentenced to 11 months of “corrective labour” for twerking outside the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow.

The dance was filmed and shared on TikTok. The cathedral is known to be attended by President Vladimir Putin.

Expelled From University

The women were convicted of “petty hooliganism” and expelled from their university.

Officials said they had “violated public order and insulted the religious feelings of citizens.” Their video quickly drew criticism from conservative Orthodox circles.

Orthodox Campaigners Push for Action

Lawyers pressure group Sorok Sorokov attacked the students after the video went viral. They called them “brainless girls who decided to gain popularity.”

The group talk specifically about that the video showed the girls “shaking their bottoms against the backdrop” of the church.

University Urges Students to ‘Watch Your Behaviour’

The Stroganov Russian State University of Art and Industry confirmed the expulsions.

They cited a “video of a dance in provocative clothing against the backdrop of the Cathedral.”

The students were warned: “Watch your behaviour and do not allow your life to be ruined by stupidity.”

Students Identified After Verdict Is Reached

The three women were later named by media as A Dmitrieva from Moscow,

A Kalinkina from Astrakhan, and I Pchelintseva from Elektrostal.

They were found guilty of an administrative offence for their “vulgar dance.” The group celebrated the outcome.

Sorok Sorokov Praises Authorities for Morality Ruling

Following the sentencing, Sorok Sorokov issued a statement supporting law enforcement.

“We thank law enforcement agencies for protecting the rights of believers, protecting public morality,” they said.

The group has been vocal in support of traditional values.
