Militia Claims Doppler Systems Are “Weather Weapons” in Government Plot

The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) is on high alert after receiving credible threats from a far-right extremist group known as Veterans on Patrol, which claims that Doppler weather radars are actually “meteorological weapons” deployed by the government. The group has called for their systematic destruction, prompting concerns among law enforcement and federal agencies.

Conspiracies Fuel Threats Against NEXRAD Sites

As reported by Digi24, the group believes that NEXRAD radar systems—used for monitoring precipitation and severe weather—are part of a covert military program. An internal NOAA security memo warns that the group is urging supporters to conduct reconnaissance of radar sites to identify vulnerabilities. “There is no law preventing Americans from destroying these weapons,” the group reportedly claims.

The threat comes amid a surge in conspiratorial rhetoric. Veterans on Patrol founder Michael “Lewis Arthur” Meyer has previously claimed that Hurricane Helene was a U.S. military operation aimed at land grabs in North Carolina for lithium extraction and smart city development—ideas rooted in broader anti-government and technophobic conspiracies.

Weather Service Stretched Thin Amid Escalating Risks

Beyond the threats themselves, the NWS is struggling with severe staffing shortages following mass layoffs under the Trump administration. According to internal sources cited by CNN, at least 90 technician positions remain unfilled, severely hampering maintenance and repair of the radar network.

“We’re used to dealing with the occasional chemtrail believer,” said one NWS employee, “but direct threats to destroy installations are rare and deeply demoralizing.” Staff have been advised to travel in pairs to remote radar stations and to report any suspicious activity immediately.

Federal law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, are actively monitoring the situation. The NEXRAD system is essential for issuing storm and tornado warnings, and any disruption could seriously endanger public safety during severe weather events.
