Russia and Iran have been steadily deepening military ties.

Cooperation has centered around drone warfare with Iranian-designed Shahed drones supplied to Moscow for use in Ukraine.

This have since become a symbol of that partnership, with both countries now sharing technology, tactics and intelligence.

Now, as the war between Iran, Israel and the US is evolving that alliance is drawing renewed scrutiny from Washington.

Senate warning

According to Ukrinform, citing The Guardian, the US has acknowledged that Russia is providing some level of support to Iran in its conflict with the United States.

General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, made the statement during a public hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee.

While he avoided specifics, he confirmed that assistance is taking place.

“There’s definitely some action there.”

Republican Senator Roger Wicker, who chairs the committee, echoed those concerns during the same session.

He suggested that Moscow’s involvement is aimed at undermining US objectives in the region.

“There’s no question that Vladimir Putin’s Russia is taking serious action to undermine our efforts for success in Iran,” Wicker said.

Earlier signals

The issue of Russian support for Iran has surfaced before in statements from political leaders.

In March, US President Donald Trump indicated that Vladimir Putin could be assisting Tehran.

More recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Washington of overlooking strong evidence of such cooperation.

Zelensky argued that the US has not acted on intelligence suggesting Russian involvement in attacks on American bases in the Middle East.

He claimed this is because Washington continues to place trust in the Russian leadership.
