Armenia just picked a new geopolitical partner.

Alliances rarely shift overnight. But when a historic rivalry finally cools down, the resulting trade agreements can completely redraw the global map.

One global power is now losing its grip as a rival steps in to finalize a massive deal.

Turning to Washington

Armenia just picked a new geopolitical partner. The nation finalized a comprehensive strategic agreement with the United States. This move signals a dramatic shift away from traditional alliances.

The paperwork focuses on an ambitious infrastructure and peace initiative. By embracing this plan, the nation is linking its economic future directly to American interests.

According to a report from the Russian news agency TASS, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan signed the framework agreement on Tuesday. This puts the final diplomatic touches on a sweeping geopolitical project.

The remote signature

The top diplomat confirmed the major development through a public video broadcast. Shortly after the papers were signed, the footage was released directly by the Armenian Foreign Ministry.

He used the broadcast to explain the final logistical steps. “Dear citizens, I have just signed the TRIPP framework agreement between Armenia and the United States,” Mirzoyan stated.

He reminded viewers that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had already initialed the paperwork during an official visit to Yerevan on May 26.

“After Marco Rubio signed the document, it was delivered to Yerevan, and I have now signed it on behalf of Armenia. The remote singing process is thus complete and the document is ready for ratification,” Mirzoyan added.

A historic handshake

The foundation for this alliance stretches back to the summer of 2025. It all started in Washington.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev traveled to the American capital for a critical trilateral meeting. They sat down with US President Donald Trump on August 8.

TASS reports that the two rival leaders signed a breakthrough joint declaration that day. The comprehensive agreement aimed to establish lasting peace between Baku and Yerevan.

The Trump route

Beyond simply ending military hostilities, the Washington deal included major economic ambitions. It mapped out a bold strategy to physically reconnect the divided region.

The plan will dramatically improve transportation links between the main territory of Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. This vital transport corridor will cut directly through Armenian land.

Officials formally named this massive infrastructure effort the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity. Also known as TRIPP, the project firmly plants American influence in a territory historically dominated by Moscow.
